The Blocklist: Blocklisting vs. Deleting Opportunities

During any stage of the Workflow, you can Delete or Blocklist one or more opportunities. Here's how each option works.

Deleting opportunities

When you delete an opportunity, it's removed from the campaign workflow and moved to the campaign trash bin.

Opportunities in the trash bin can be restored to the workflow later if needed. Learn how to restore a deleted opportunity.
Opportunities in the trash bin can still be discovered in future campaigns.

Blocklisting opportunities

The Blocklist is a list of websites you don't want to show up in any of your future campaigns. When you add an opportunity to a Blocklist, it's removed from the campaign and won't be pulled into future campaigns.

Types of Blocklists

There are two types of Blocklists in Pitchbox:

1. Global-Level Blocklist

Blocks a site across all projects and campaigns in your account. This is useful for high-authority sites where you're certain outreach won't be useful (e.g. Wikipedia, Facebook, eHow). This option is available for Admins only.

2. Project-Level Blocklist

Blocks a site within a specific project. Use it to:

Stop competitors from showing up as opportunities.
Exclude sites you already have a relationship with.
Block sites that are irrelevant to this project but might be useful in another one.

Adding sites to a Blocklist

You can add sites to a Blocklist in three ways:

From the Workflow: Use the dropdown next to the Delete button.
From the Opportunity Details page.

In bulk (Admins only): Go to Settings, then Prospecting Blocklists.

Managing Blocklists in bulk (Admins only)

From Settings > Prospecting Blocklists, Admins can review all sites on the Blocklists and add or remove sites in bulk.

To add new sites:

Select the type of Blocklist.
Click + Add Sites to Blocklist.
Paste your list of domains into the pop-up.
Click Add to Blocklist to update your list.

How domains are matched

If you add the root domain, Pitchbox automatically adds the www. version as well, and vice versa.
To Blocklist a site and all of its subdomains, put an asterisk wildcard (*.) in front of the domain.

Blocklist reasons

Whenever you add a site to a Blocklist, you can select a reason, whether you're adding sites in bulk from Prospecting Blocklists or manually in the Workflow. Admins can create and edit Blocklist reasons for your account.
